- Take me out to the ball game |
|||
After spending a small fortune on game dogs and drinks, we sat back and watched the Yankees give us a great game. A-Rod hit a two-run homer and stole a base, and Giambi hit a solo home run. Jeter hit an RBI double and Cano had a two-run triple. Chien-Ming Wang pitched for 6 1/3rd innings and scattered seven hits, walking three and striking out five. Mike Myers came in to pitch to Ortiz then Brian Bruney struck out Manny Ramirez. We also saw Scott Proctor and Kyle Farnsworth pitch to close it out. The best part of the night was the final score - the Yankess beat the Sox 6-2! Going to Yankee Stadium for your first time and watching a victory over the rival Red Sox is a great memory to have! |

- Me, my mom and the city |
|||
Over the last week did a lot of shopping and eating – I bet you could have guessed that though. We shopped throughout Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village, South Street Seaport, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue and everywhere in between. They sure do know how to treat you in NYC while you are shopping. We were served Sangria and finger food one afternoon while shopping in Kenneth Cole. The next day we were served wine in BCBG. Now that is my kind of shopping! We enjoyed our morning (or should I say our afternoon) bagels, happy hour at the Merchant’s Café (awesome French onion soup), Chevy’s Mexican, Mary Ann’s Mexican and Adrienne’s Pizza Bar! Joel, we had a great time at lunch – I’m glad you called. My mom and I headed out one day and I was minding my own business (as I always do) and we saw that a movie was being filmed one block from my building. We were able to see Josh Hartnett filming the movie August that is scheduled to come out next year. We had a fabulous time, but I wish it wouldn’t have flown by so fast! I can’t wait for you to come back Mama - Levi is waiting at the door ready for you to take him to the dog park. Thanks for helping me find all the grocery stores and making the tomato gravy, cornbread and squash – it was delicious! Hurry back! As my mom flew out, Brad flew in to the city. 11 to 2 Brad! |

Let me explain a little bit about what being a "city dog" means. First of all, when Brad and Jill take me out, I have to ride the elevator. They always make me sit while riding, but I don't like to because my butt slips on the elevator floor. They also make me sit each time we get to an intersection, but I don't like sitting on the dirty ground so sometimes I give them a hard time. When we pass other people and other dogs, I have to be a gentleman and not bark at them. I don't bark much anyway, so this part doesn't bother me. They have the process of walking me down to an art. They take me out at least four times a day, and they do it in shifts (although we all go together when we can). Jill has the morning (well, she's supposed to) and afternoon shifts, and Brad has the lunch and night shifts. Now being a city dog has one other aspect that you don't have back home - poop. When I poop, Brad and Jill have to pick it up in little bags and throw it away. It's amazing how many people love their animals enough to do this - it's just business as usual for those that have lived here for a long time. This is new to Brad and Jill, and I gave Brad the honor of handling my first city poop. I think Jill is currently winning at 3-2. Brad's trying to train me to do this deed on Jill's shifts :) |

- All settled in |

We have posted some pictures of our loft, so let me describe it for you. As soon as you walk in, you'll be in the foyer. This area is large enough for a blow-up bed, so if you come visit this is where you can sleep. We have a long hallway with both the bathroom and kitchen on the left (we have a normal shower again - yes!) Our bed (the cave) is on the left just past the kitchen - it has curtains, a Chinese screen, a chest, and a large column that separates it from the den. In the den we have my computer desk, a couch, chair, coffee table, dresser, and TV. We have two windows where you can see some of New York, the Hudson River, some buildings in New Jersey, and the Statue of Liberty off in the distance. We haven't even lived here for a week yet and we both absolutely love it! Our building is called 90W and it's on Washington Street in the Financial District in lower Manhattan. We live three blocks away from Wall Street. We live on the 9th floor, and the building has a nice gym, lounge, outside terrace, a place to hit golf balls, and a putting green. There are lots of conveniences, and Jill has already used the "wash and fold" laundry service - $1 a pound and they do it all in the same day. Here are some pictures of our loft and here is a video of our crib (it's 184MB, so here's a smaller one). Jill's mom arrived for a visit today and she'll be here for Mother's Day. I'll be in Phoenix next week so Jill won't have to stay here by herself the first week that I'm gone. We hope you like our new way of updating our site - shorter updates but more often. We'll archive them off to another page each month. Talk to you again soon... |

- The Big Move |
|||
We stayed in New Jersey last night and we planned our route into Manhattan very well - we were prepared to drive through the Holland Tunnel and we knew exactly what streets to take. Driving this truck is not an easy task, especially in New York. So we were ready. Well, we got up and drove to the tunnel and waited through the traffic (no one wanted to let us merge into their lanes) and then a policeman tells us that we have to go through the Lincoln Tunnel instead. The problem is that this tunnel is farther up the island and we don't know the best streets to take from this route - and we are trying to minimize our driving time in New York City in this big truck. Fortunately, Jill read the map well and we arrived at our place without further incident. However, we were now 30 minutes late for our move-in time. You see, we only had a two hour time slot to move in, so had to hurry - I've never emptied out a truck as fast as we did in my life - it ended up taking us two and a half hours. Thanks to Laverne for the help! We took the truck back to Chelsea (not too far from our place) and Jill got out to ask them where I should park. They told her that they didn't have room for us and that we would have to drive to their Brooklyn site. Jill knew that I had enough of the truck already and that I wouldn't stand for this, so she motioned for me to come on in and park. Fortunately they let us keep it there and I didn't have to drive it anymore. I won't be upset if I never drive another U-haul again! We are very thankful that we didn't have any issues driving this truck and that the weather was good to us the entire time. Now we have lots of unpacking to do... |
